"I’m so pleased to have joined the team at Janno. I’ve known the company for years, doing lots of work for them as a Voice Over artist. I think it was about 3 years ago that Matt gave me exclusive, home access to one of his mics – a Rode Procaster – meaning he didn’t have to keep belting up and down the M40 between my house and his! Having access to this beautiful bit of kit really opened up a few doors for me and I started getting more interested in audio production.
I trained as an actor at East 15 drama school and for the last 15 years have been working as a theatre professional but doing office work on the side, in unrelated industries, to support myself. I run a theatre company called Get Over It Productions and we produce 2-4 shows a year. One of those shows is a new writing event called The Scene where we take short scripts of around 15 mins and stage 6 of them in an evening.
Over lockdown I saw an opportunity to bring my theatre work and interest in audio production together, and with Janno’s help we started producing The Scene Podcast – a series of dinky little PodPlays. We are now half way through Season 2. It was around this time that I approached Matt to ask if he had any room to properly apprentice me in sound design. Instead he offered me a job! I was able to leave my Office Manager role at a marketing company and throw myself into the wealth of work Janno Media is always nursing.
Being an actor is tough, and the industry has really taken a kicking over 2020. I’m grateful to have been given an opportunity to learn a new skill and pleased that I found a way to pivot my love for theatre and storytelling, in a digital direction."
