Hello,

For issue #81 of ContentED we’re celebrating Black History Month with the help of guest editor Jason Graham, from Alexander Mann Solutions. It’s been a pleasure to see and hear what Jason wants to share with you all, and how he’s using this content to help celebrate #BHM. Thanks Jason.

"Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate my Jamaican heritage, which is heavily reflected in the content I’ve chosen to share. I must thank my friends at Janno for the opportunity to do so, as it prompted me to revisit some of my heroes while discovering new ones too. Inspiring and insightful stories around football, music, and poetry hopefully means there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy."

If you have some content ideas, we'd love to hear from you so please get in touch.

Podcast | Ian Wright, Made in South London
"A six-part talkSPORT documentary which charts the history of black players in the English game. Episode 5 captures the experience of black players in the 90’s through the eyes of one of my heroes growing up, back when I used to ‘play a bit’! Ian Wright, who “brought the streets to the stadium” was an inspiration to me and thousands of other black and mixed-raced youths, not just in South London where I’m from, but throughout the country. Ian Wright, Wright, Wright!"

YouTube | Yes I, Bob Marley
"Another idol growing up and an ongoing source of knowledge, understanding and, inspiration for me is the majestic reggae artist and spiritual prophet, Bob Marley. I’m sure that we’ve all been touched by his music at some point, or have at the very least listened to it, but what’s maybe not so well known is the light that he brought to Britain during a particularly tough time for Black British youth in the 70s. One Love."

Podcast | Benjamin Zephaniah finds his voice
"Those who know me well, know that my passion for words and copywriting is really just a refection of my love of poetry. With that in mind, who better to share at this moment in time, than one of Britain’s most renowned poets, Benjamin Zephaniah. "

YouTube | Meet Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
"Never heard of him? No, me neither to be honest. My search for uplifting and inspiring content to share in this celebratory edition of ContentED, led to the wonderful discovery of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875 – 1912), the much-loved British mixed-race classical composer. The “musical genius” spectacularly defied societal odds in the early 20th century and continues to inspire Britain’s classical elite today. Bravo, Samuel."

YouTube | Remembering Arthur Wharton, Number 1
"Arthur Wharton was the first black professional football player, not just in the UK but the world. While that alone is a monumental achievement and historical fact, he was so much more besides, including being the first man to run 100 yards in 10 seconds. This great short video does a brilliant job in bringing his trailblazing story to life."
