Tom Sell, Janno Media Award winner 2025

We’re delighted to announce the 2025 winner of the Janno Media Award: History’s Plan B by Nottingham Trent University students Tom Sell and Max Mackenzie. The podcast explores alternate history through fun, mind-bending “what if” scenarios, reimagining pivotal moments in time and examining how different choices might have shaped the world we know today.

This year’s winning entry will be developed into a full podcast series released before the end of 2025, produced by Tom and Max as part of our ongoing commitment to graduate development, innovation, and creative excellence in the form of a £5,000 scholarship.

Gail Mellors, leader of the BA Broadcast Journalism course at NTU, said:

“It has been wonderful, once again, to work with the team at Janno Media who have continued to support our students in their final year of study, offering this excellent award and an exciting opportunity for the winners to work with them to produce a professional podcast series upon graduation… This additional dynamic to the module, collaborating with a professional production house like Janno Media, has helped to raise standards and give our students an insight into the world of work which awaits them after graduation.”

Now in its fourth year, the Janno Media Award is designed to give emerging talent a direct route into professional production, equipping graduates with hands-on experience and a finished product to launch their careers.

Founder & Head of Innovation Matt Wallace is an NTU alumnus and former Students’ Union President adds:

“It’s a genuine pleasure to support projects like History’s Plan B, which give graduates not just a platform, but the tools and experience to carry forward into their careers. The imagination and drive these students bring to podcasting is always inspiring, and we’re excited to help bring their ideas to life.”

Stay tuned for the premiere of History’s Plan B, a thought-provoking and imaginative podcast series with plenty of twists and timely insights.
