Tune in to the Impact of Innocence Work

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024

This Wrongful Conviction Day, it’s great to see the release of a new podcast series as part of our ongoing partnership with the Innocence Project London (IPL) (based at the University of Greenwich). For the past two years, we’ve collaborated with the IPL on several impactful podcasts, each playing a vital role in raising awareness of its mission, to review and investigate claims of innocence from those who have exhausted the criminal appeals process.

The latest mini-series, titled The Impact of Innocence Work, explores the profound effects of this critical work through four unique perspectives. This series features conversations with the partner of an IPL client maintaining their innocence; Justin Brooks, Founder of the Californian Innocence Project; Rob Powell, former Director of Pro Bono, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in London; and Calum McCrae, a former IPL  student and now a Times podcaster. These compelling narratives offer listeners an understanding of both the personal and professional impacts of innocence work.

Our Head of Podcasts, Sassy, has worked closely with IPL’s Director, Dr. Louise Hewitt, to produce this and previous series, with the goal of expanding the reach of IPL’s critical mission. Our partnership began in 2022 with the launch of a repurposed podcast episode, followed by a successful mini-series in April 2023, where Sassy brought Janno’s mobile studio to the University of Greenwich to record interviews with law and criminology students who volunteer with IPL.

Dr. Louise Hewitt says:

The Innocence Project London

“Working with Janno Media has been instrumental in raising awareness about our mission. Podcasting has allowed us to share the stories from students, clients families and our partners with a much broader audience, bringing vital attention to the issues we tackle every day. Their expertise and dedication have made it possible for us to highlight the voices of those involved in innocence work, and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support.”

At Janno Media, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire change. By supporting the Innocence Project London through these podcast series, we’ve helped amplify their voice, enabling them to reach new audiences and further their mission to seek justice for the wrongfully convicted. We’re proud to be part of this ongoing journey and look forward to continuing our partnership with IPL.
