5 steps to get the best out of your live stream

Thursday, December 17th, 2020

Live streaming can be a really valuable tool for your communications strategies – both internal, and public facing. This professional broadcasting practice enables you to bring audio and video of real-time events to viewers over the internet.

More and more organisations are embracing live streaming and the benefits that it offers not only the organisation, but also, its audience. Making your in-person event available for remote-attendance is a great way to widen your organisation’s reach. Live streaming allows your audience to grow and people to tune in who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity.

As well as public facing communications, live streams are the perfect solution for organisations to communicate with their staff, reducing costs and increasing revenues for things like training, webinars, presentations and award ceremonies.

By promoting audience interaction, through Q&A’s and polls, live streams really enable a brand to engage and connect with their viewers.

But there are a few things to think about if you want your live stream to work the right way for you.

Here’s our latest blog which explores these top tips to achieve success with live streaming.

1. Focus on content

The topic of your stream is probably the most important factor here. Whether it’s a presentation, discussion or webinar, content is key. For an engaging stream you need to be addressing a subject which is relevant to and resonates with your intended audience at the right time.

TOP TIP: Define the goal of each event you stream before planning, especially if it forms part of a series.

2. Be prepared

Give yourself plenty of time to prepare for your stream.  To deliver a top-quality live stream, each participant needs to be both mentally prepared and organised. This not only reduces stress levels but will help you deliver your best possible broadcast.

TOP TIP: If you can rehearse the event beforehand do, but this is real-time video so mishaps do happen. The important thing is you’re sharing something you’re passionate about with the world.

3. Promote the event

Sounds simple, but make sure you effectively market your event with plenty of notice. A compelling description is really important. Market with at least a few weeks’ notice, then continue to promote the week before, the day before and even an hour before the event goes live. Publishing your stream to multiple platforms will help you to reach the most viewers. By recording the live show, you can also share with anyone who missed it.

TOP TIP: To build a following and engagement when live streaming, regular broadcasts are key.

4. Showcase your brand

Use graphics, animations, lower thirds and pre-recorded video content to give your stream context and make it look professional. Use tools like polls and Q & A’s to engage your audience and make them feel invested in the stream.

TOP TIP: Take a look at some of your competitors and their content to see if there is anything you can learn from them.

5. Partner up with someone you trust

To get the best out of your live stream, work with a trusted partner who can make the process as hassle-free as possible. A good live stream expert should deal with all the logistics so you and your colleagues can focus on what’s important – the content. Nothing should be too much trouble for them.

TOP TIP: Ask suppliers to show you examples of their live streaming work, or ask for testimonials from their clients.

What events can I live stream?

Live Streaming can enhance your entire internal and external events programme in the way of:

  • Webinars
  • Conferences
  • Presentations/announcements
  • Meetings and AGMs
  • Round-table discussions
  • Inductions
  • Training
  • Networking
  • Health & well-being activities
  • Social events (trivia nights, classes etc.)
  • Fundraising events
  • Award ceremonies
  • Concerts

Given the recent changes we’ve undergone, we really wanted to do something different for our relaunch. We approached Janno with half an idea and they turned it into something brilliant we never imagined. From start to finish they made the process completely hassle free, so we could focus on great content. They exceeded all expectations and more and we’ve had great internal feedback. We look forward to working with them again soon.
